The first step in profiling your screen is to buy the tools suitable for the job! All the tools, e.g. ColorVision Spyder2 (and related bundles) or the Gretag Macbeth i1 equipment come with software that will take you through the process step-by-step. Generally speaking, profiling your screen takes the following steps: - Run the software, and make some selections on how you want your screen profiled (most software gives you default options, and online help, to make it easier for you to choose);
- Attach the colour measurement to the screen, or ‘hang’ it on your screen so that it can measure colours that will be displayed there;
- The software will now spend a few minutes displaying colours on the screen. It will then use the device (Spyder2, i1 Display, i1 Photo etc) to measure the actual colour that is displayed - you can probably take this as an opportunity to go and make a cup of tea!
- Having measured the actual colours that are displayed, the software will create a monitor profile for you - depending on your choice of tool, you may have an opportunity to name the profile;
- The software will typically set the profile up to be the default one to be used on your computer.
All done! And it only takes a few minutes every couple of weeks. Please note that MWORDS has closed. We aim to retain these support pages in the hope that they may benefit our past customers, but regret that we can no longer offer further comment or support in relation to the information above.
