When is a CIS not suitable?

You should not be considering a CIS bulk ink feed system if you do not plan on using bulk ink! If the last time you changed a cartridge was January 2004 - well, maybe a CIS is not for you. You also need to be fairly confident on your choice of ink for the bulk systems. We recommend that you try a cartridge version of any ink prior to going for the bulk ink purchase. Having said that, there are some inks that you can only purchase in bulk, and in these instances we strongly suggest you research other people’s opinions and reviews of that ink-set prior to installation. We do sell several [[CATN,Inks]]/inks/ in bulk - so browsing this site is a great place to start looking!

A CIS may not be suitable in some of the following circumstances:

  • For very high-volume, high speed printing with large % coverage of the sheet at low resolutions;
  • In ‘Production’ environments where high ink throughput is required (over time, we have found CIS’ to be very reliable, but on larger prints with high ink usage, it sometimes seems to require a little time for the CIS to ‘catch up’ with the ink supply);
  • Users whose print jobs are always ‘critically’ timed. On the rare occasion when problems do arise, our Support policy is to provide our users guidance and information to carry out tests to identify the source of the problem, and actions to resolve it. We may request print samples etc where print quality issues are identified, and this often may take some time for us to receive and review the information. In other words, if your print jobs are always ‘critical’ to be completed immediately, we will possibly not be able to resolve an issue that appears in your required timescale. Users in these circumstances may prefer to stick with cartridges or consider a CIS on one printer with backup printers or alternate systems in case problems do arise.

To put a context on the items above, we estimate that more than 90% of users will complete their first year of CIS without issue, and of the remaining 10% of users, we’d estimate more than half have problems that are very quick to resolve (e.g. minor procedural changes in the way they work) and / or the problem is in fact only indirectly related to CIS use; e.g. the more printing you do, the more likely paper dust is to become a problem.

Finally, you should thoroughly test your Epson printer prior to installing any third party product to ensure it is not faulty out-of-the-box.

Of course, we can only support so many printers with these CIS units, some can not be supported.

Please note that MWORDS has closed. We aim to retain these support pages in the hope that they may benefit our past customers, but regret that we can no longer offer further comment or support in relation to the information above.
