This page discusses some of the tasks that may need to be actioned as general maintenance. In practice, we have found that the CIS operates very reliably indeed, so these items are as much intended as items to check should you experience any problems, as they are things that you should actually check. In addition, we cover the resolution of many printing problems in our Printer Info, so please also refer there if you are experiencing printing problems. Frequent Maintenance Tasks- Check ink levels and top up if necessary (see the FAQ if you are unsure when or how to refill);
- Check for correct positioning of the support bar, that the ink lines are not overstretched or catching anywhere;
- That the ink is in the line for the majority of the length (a few inches of air bubble is not a problem) of the lines;
- That the cartridges are fully pressed into their holders;
- That the air-lines into the bottles are clear of obstruction.
Occasional Maintenance TasksInside each cartridge is a small filter that could, potentially, get restricted by ink particles over time. Of course, in a single-use cartridge, this filter gets replaced with each cartridge; but that does not happen with a CIS. If you have used a large volume of ink (we think greater than 500ml is a reasonable quantity), or a great deal of time has elapsed with the CIS installed (we would think that 1-2 years is ‘a great deal of time’) and you find yourself with nozzle issues or reduced levels of ink getting on to the page, this could be the cause ofthe problem, especially if you use a pigment or pigmented ink.You can resolve this by replacing your CIS cartridges and follow the procedure for changing the inks you are using in your CIS. There is an alternative procedure suggested in the Advanced Support Issues. |
