Small Gamut inks (SG) are a colour inkset with a small gamut of colours; this makes them an excellent option for printing toned monochrome prints... they are not intended for colour printing! Due to the nature of the inks, the prints you make can be toned in any way you like; on the same image, or from print to print; cool here, warm there, and so on. However, as a colour inkset, it is also possible that there will still be some chance of ‘colour cross over’ where a neutral greyscale actually prints with slight magenta / green casts through the tonal range. Lyson have made this somewhat less likely through the provision of a small number of generic profiles - see the Colour Management section. We currently stock Small Gamut inks in just one formulation intended for most Epson printers like the Epson 1290 and 1160 models. We have yet to confirm their compatibility with later printers such as the 2100. Moving to SG InksWhen moving to Small Gamut inks to the first time in a printer, we strongly recommend that you use cleaning cartridges to ‘wash out’ the old ink before installing the new ink. Not doing this can create problems both with colour accuracy for some time to come, and could even create problems with nozzle checks etc. |
